Pool Game Rules

A world-wide, standardized set of pool game rules has become a necessity due to the international popularity of pool and billiards in the last few decades.

The World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) has worked with various other large billiards federations of the world to establish a set of standards for the equipment to be used, and games played in, WPA sanctioned international tournaments.

  • The Billiard Congress of America (representing the various federations of North America)
  • The European Pocket Billiard Federation (representing 24 national federations)
  • The Asian Pocket Billiard Union (representing 7 national federations)
  • The Astralasian Pool Association (representing 2 national federations)
All of these federations have come together under the WPA banner to produce the first-ever world standardized rules for major tournament pool games. These rules and standards took effect on January 1, 2008.

The World Pool-Billiard Association has the following World Rules regarding billiards Regulations, Rules of Play and Tournament Table & Equipment Specifications on their website at the following URLs -
